He took a moment at the top of the stairs to straighten his clothes from the bicycle ride over. He might be a bit over dressed in his slacks and button up, but with what tonight was and how things might change he had wanted to look as extra nice. He also took the moment to open the folder he held, check the papers one more time to make sure they were all there. Read the poem he'd written on the front, checked it yet again for spelling errors or other typos.
Then a deep breath to remind himself that even if Kiku said no, they'd still be okay, and then he walked out onto the rooftop.
And stopped for a moment, taking in the sight that was Kiku all dressed up surrounded by the night sky and their candlelight dinner.
Kiku caught sight of Willem and felt himself suddenly going shy. He looked so nice dressed up, and it took Kiku a moment to realize how long it had been since he had seen the other man in something rather than jeans, pajamas, or...well...nothing at all. The shy butterflies that erupted in his stomach did little to settle as he partway crossed the roof, smiling as he met his boyfriend halfway.
He bent down and kissed that soft smile, felt the butterflies in his stomach settle a bit. Whatever happened tonight, they'd be fine.
"Happy anniversary," he replied as they slid apart. Taking the other man by the hand, he walked over to the dinner laid out for them. Pulling out Kiku's chair, he let the other man sit down before taking his own seat. Looking down at the folder he still held, he decided now was as a good a time as ever.
"Kiku," he said, making sure he had the other man's attention before he went on. "We've been looking for a place to move into a while now and I...I think I may have found one."
With a deep breath he handed the folder over. It was a simple cream colored folder, with the poem I Want by Kim Konopka written on the front cover

Gingerly, he took the folder, reading the poetry written on the cover before anything else. It seemed fitting, if they were going to be discussing moving in together. With a nervous glance at Willem, whose face could not hide the hopeful expectation of his reaction, he pulled the papers from the file.
Immediately, his eyes went wide.
"This is...Are you..."
It was more than he had expected. Had dared hoped to expect. A house together with Willem. A home. He teared up, hand immediately jumping to blot at the moisture in embarrassment.

He was extra glad he'd dressed up a bit now.

"You really want us to make this kind of life?"
