BECAUSE I RAMBLED TO MANDA ABOUT THIS ON MY PERSONAL LJ AND I FIGURED IT NEEDED A SPOT HERE IN THIS JOURNAL--
First off, his childhood. I remember before the official scanlations for chapter 173 came out (the chapter that actually shows his dad ;;), there was this one I found on a Yusuke fanlisting that translated it, and...p-pretty much implied that papa!Urameshi was an abusive bastard back in the day. From what I see it, he stuck with Atsuko in the early years, when Yusuke was a wee toddler, buuuut they would always fight and he'd hurt her, and little!Yusuke would probably protect her but fail in the process. Me also thinks this is where his anger issues stemmed from, as well as some sort of a father complex. His father most likely up and left when he was around four-ish, and Atsuko...probably did her best through the kindergarten years but lapsed into neglect as he got a little older.
I also think that the reason why he's so...weird and awkward with relationships is because he had absolutely no experience in them. (Aside from Keiko, of course, but t-their thing wasn't exactly the typical relationship and yeah ;3;) It's probably pretty obvious that with a reputation that he had, there wasn't any girls leaving him love letters in his shoe locker or DOKI DOKI KYAAAA confession |D; which is also why he was all awkward turtle around Mako-chan at first on island because he just wasn't used to someone he didn't know for like...ever coming out and saying they liked him like that TTwTT
--even though there's no canon proof, HIS BIRTHDAY MUST BE APRIL 18TH, seeing how there were clues in the dub about the time frame of the Sensui arc (which his birthday was right after) and it'd make him an Aries, which...the traits are ridiculously him ;3; (then again, I am a zodiac fag, so that's more my musings than anything else--)
DESPITE BEING A LAZY FUCK, HE CAN PROBABLY BE AS GOOD AS A HOUSEWIFE AS MAKO-CHAN :|b Because when they showed his apartment before he died, it was actually pretty neat, buuuut afterwards...y-yeah the scene where Keiko needs to come in and clean and OH GOD THE HORROR. I figured since Atsuko was usually either too hungover or just....not in the house most of the time, Yusuke had to take the reins (against his will, of course |D;) and keep things proper, not to mention feed himself and all of that. ALSO WORKING AT THAT RAMEN STAND REQUIRES COOKING EXPERIENCE SO CLEARLY HE HAS HAD SOME.
He...is more ridiculously attached to his friends and loved ones than he'd like to admit. Seeing how he really only had like...one good friend for the majority of his life, having others who actually want to get to know him and like him is something deeply precious to him. Which is why he goes batshit when something happens to them--! Because he'd rather not go back to square one again, even though he could manage it if he tried. Even though they make his life topsy-turvy and a pain in the ass most of the time, they make his life worth living, and he loves them for it.
