What, exactly, do you mean by over the counter? You can already get it over the counter, sans prescription, without talking to your doctor... Or do you mean on the shelf for anyone to pick up at their leisure without the help of a pharmacist?

oooover the counter means without prescription or having to seek help from a medical professional. you can already get it without prescription, but you have to go see a doctor-type (not necessarily a doctor, but someone in the medical profession, because they used to have to take down your medical history). you can't just buy it at the pharmacy on the shelf. well... couldn't... up until now.

"oooover the counter means without prescription or having to seek help from a medical professional."

Yeah, that's what I thought... It's been available like that for years now.

It's behind the counter, but without prescription.
AND buying it over the counter is MAD EXPENSIVE, YO.
14 year-olds don't have $50 to spent every time they decide to have crazy animal sex, Meaghan Burke. Well, most don't anyway.
Plus, I've had to warn patients of the side effects, and they are notttt pretty. I don't think it will be a problem; if they were planning on using it for that reason, they'll probably take it once and realize spending half of their life being bent over the toilet isn't so fun.

"Plan B, the controversial "morning after" contraceptive pill, will be freely available on Canadian drugstore shelves instead of being kept behind the pharmacy counter."

i don't feel like it's going to continue being so expensive. if you go to the clinic to get it, it's only like... $15. I don't feel like kids will pay attention to side effects anyways. Side effects mean nothing, if this magical pill will prevent you from a massive mistake in the form of a human. ha.

I dunno dude. The price of the pill depends on what the pharmaceutical companies say it should cost, and I don't really see them dropping the price on a pill that's so in demand. If they can get $50 a pop for it, they're going to.

Also, everyone I know who's taken that damn pill never, ever wants to have to take it again. I spent two days with a highschool friend nursing her back to health and holding her hair back while she puked everything in her system out, baby included *not funny, I know. I couldn't resist*

ok. i didn't waaant to bring it up, but speaking from PERSONAL experience, i had zero side effects, so it depends on the person. and it was extremely awkward going in to talk to the lady. AND it only cost $8.99
1. the lady that i talked to was condescending and asked really personal questions, which i feel is necessary. whereas the article is making it seem like it's a hassle going through all the procedures.
2. she told me it isn't available in all pharmacies behind the counter, which is true because at the time i was working at pharma plus and we definitely didn't sell it.
3. the BIGGEST reason i never want to experience taking the pill again is because of the situation you have to go through to get it. which is my point, if kids don't have to go through the awkwardness of the meeting with the clinic, and filling out forms, heeeells yes they won't be as careful. it's not that big of a deal anymore. WHICH a lot of people don't get because they haven't experienced it.
