This chapter rocks! I honestly don't know how they can continue to think that Ginny was ever remotely in the right. Yes, she is their daughter/sister but she tried to kill her husband (their adopted son/brother) for money. She admitted it by saying, "We needed money for the baby" as if that excuses attempted murder. When the murder plot failed she tried to steal it. Then there is the kidnapping plot, that they don't about yet, but I am very interested in how they will respond when they find out.
What surprises me is that she isn't under investigation. I doubt that anything she and Blaise did during the divorce was legal.
You can think someone else is wrong and still love them. I think that's how Molly and the others still partially on Ginny's side see what's happening: Harry's asking them to turn on her completely. They won't, especially when she's pregnant, but at the same time there's the discomfort of knowing she did (or was party to) some pretty awful things.
Ah, but anything done in the actual trial phase is legal. The outside authorities won't intervene.
Opps! I must of missed that. Sorry. Does this mean Draco won't get into trouble for cursing Blaise? I am uncomfortable with what he did. I understand why, but it seems excessive to me.
That's right, he won't. Just as Blaise won't get in legal trouble for kidnapping Narcissa; Draco has exposed the matter to shame him, not get him punished.
Hence the slight discomfort I do intend people to feel about that.
i'm glad that draco was able to let harry confront the weasleys on his own. I particularly liked this line: "He couldn’t replace that with another dependence, or every change he had tried to make in the past few weeks would have been for nothing."
Harry is actively changing, and his relationship with draco is clearly going to be much different than his with ginny. I'm also very happy the harry was able to defend himself to the weasleys, and that he now irrevocably believes that he is right to behave as he did. i'm also glad that the weasleys weren't beyond amending their views as well. i've always thought of them as a family with common sense (maybe not mrs. weasley so much, but everyone else).
i also really liked this line; "But in the event, all he did was stoop down and kiss Harry’s forehead." lovely.
looking forward to the next chapters, especially harry and draco's relationship coming out into the open. and very excited that you might post again today!
Yes! Thank you. Part of that is the delicate project, again, of trying to make sure Harry and Draco are equal. Draco could easily have claimed control earlier in the story, and I wanted to emphasize how, now, he didn't want to.
The Weasleys can slowly change. The revelations about what Ginny did in more detail (the kidnapping plot) will at least make them wary about welcoming Blaise into the family if Ginny insists on staying with him.
is there possibly a fight approaching between Harry and Draco? I don't think Harry will be delighted about sending their intimate news to Skeeter and publishing it in DP... anyways, another great chapter :)
Wonderful confrontation between Harry and the Weasleys. You manage to paint it austerely, and expose different viewpoints. I can imagine such a scene in real life and in canon. Harry's need to break through the Weasley complacency is heartbreaking.
But he manages to make them understand. And more importantly, Draco recognized his need to go alone.
I wonder what juicy bit of Blaise's past was uncovered by Draco, and just what the extent of the revelations will be. His ample need of revenge leaves me hopeful for more action.
Thanks! I'm pleased you felt the Weasleys didn't go too far from their canon selves, especially since I've never paid them as much attention in the books as I probably should to characterize them all individually.
What Draco (or, more accurately, the people Draco hired) found out is going to bury Blaise. That's in chapter 30.
