I just found the most amazing art store right around the corner from me. I had noticed it a few weeks ago but hadn't gotten a chance to poke into it yet, so today was the day, and wooo boy, it was much larger and way more comprehensive than I anticipated. Man, I walk by Lee's so often and have to exercise SUPREME WILLPOWER not to stop in and blow my whole paycheck. However, rumor has it I could get a student discount at the Bond St Art Store, which involves more pre-planning to buy.

Yay for cool art stores! very exciting.

Yeah, during a nine-month stint in the purgatory of LongBeach, CA one of my only saving graces was a great art-supply store just a couple blocks away.

Haven't checked out Lee's on 57th yet. Will have to give it a shot. Thanks.

Lee's is pricey, but absolutely gorgeous. I found Pearl Paints in Chinatown better for cheaper supplies, but nothing beats the beauty and presentation of Lee's. They have the BEST fabric ribbon selection I have ever seen (go go Beltane ribbons!) And, fwiw, they DO give student discounts, if you bring in your student ID and look desperate...I think it's 15% or 20% off or something.
