I got traumatized by 'Scream' when I was 10 and never quite recovered. Man, I don't know how you haven't had a heart attack yet!

anne- my mother tells me of a book of victorian ghost stories that describes exactly the same octopus-ish thing that you saw. You seem to know of everything that exists, thus you might have this book. We dont own it anymore, but it includes (as i've said) the octopus ghosty-thingy (very technical, i realize) as well as the stories about the vampire carmella. You may know of it and it may give some more information, but i hear it has a rather distressing ending so then again maybe not.

sorry- no knowledge of the title. it was in my grandparent's library, and their house burnt down, along with all of the books inside. trust me- we would own it if we knew the title.
