Tipping

I stopped into Borders and, on my way to buy another book, I read a bit from a guide for foreigners moving to America. It made me appreciate one of the eccentricities of American culture: tipping.
In the States, we tip everybody. In some cases, the book even refers to it as "bribing," especially with reference to bouncers, maitre'd's, and ushers in ( Read more... )

Also if you get the opportunity to try and send me a postcard, I'll adore you forever. I just got mine from Adam and it made my day.

Of course, being lazy and it being the end of the summer, you could always just mail it when you return. That would work too. :) It'd still make my day.

I think that book is by Jon Lee Anderson of The New Yorker. Jon Lee Anderson is a good man and thorough. More good Iraq commentary stuff in The NYer is written by George Packer. You should seek that out as well. That is all.
