The problem with all measures in general is the lack of a control. We don't have reliable data on global temperatures for the centuries before the Industrial Revolution, so it's hard to know what the average global temperatures are supposed to be, and what, if any, effects we are having.

Furthermore, just as forest fires occur in nature for valid, nature-befitting reasons, so to does climate change. But again, the lack of sufficient, reliable data hinders our ability to plan our response.

true, but that doesn't seem to have any effect on the passage of a draconian, economy impairing Cap & Trade bill...

I would say that politics has nothing to do with intelligence, but it should.
