If one of the hallmark's of Delgado's era was "poor choices in minions", Ainley's is cosplay. And he commits - even when there's no reason to think anyone who knows him will be around, and even when he's alone, he keeps up his pseudo-Asian magician gibberish to stay in character. I'm not sure if I'm more inclined to compare him to the Monarch ("I am into costume business, not costume play!") or Charlie Kelly, with his irrepressible love of unnecessary costumes ("they already don't know who we are!")
