Three years ago, Lelouch, having received the power of Geass, had declared war on his own family from behind a mask. He had made the decision to change the system with force.
Three years ago, he, Suzaku, had donned the uniform of the people who oppressed his and subjected himself to their laws. He had made the decision to change the system from within.
Lelouch had set forth on his path, rife with bloodshed, with the intention of one day presenting to his beloved sister Nunnally a world that was kind and beautiful.
He, Suzaku, had set forth on his path, mired in bureaucracy, with the intention of one day presenting to his beloved people their nation, proud and free once more.
Lelouch had always truly intended to live.
He, Suzaku, had always secretly desired to die.
Now, standing beside Nunnally while wearing Lelouch's true legacy, Suzaku watched as the world stood in peace, having been united in its hatred for its uncredited saviour. He watched as they cursed Lelouch in name and celebrated him in truth.
A bitter laugh escaped his lips, distorted by the mask's machinations. So much for ideals.
