"You know," Jun'ichi remarked as he stooped down to pick up another empty bottle, "I don't think most people would consider cleaning up trash on the beach a date, much less romantic in any way."
Beside him, Ai laughed as she put the soda can she'd been holding into a separate bag destined for the recycling bins. "No, I suppose not," she acknowledged, "but most people wouldn't understand the significance either." Well, he had to give her that.
"After all," she remarked with a smile as she took a step closer to him, "this is where I found out you were a really nice guy, senpai." A giggle escaped her lips. "Even though you were such a pervert. Still are."
The boy flushed, both at her accusation (which was undeniably true) and her praise. "Well, I don't think I deserve that high an opinion, since I did it partly to impress a really cute girl."
This time Ai laughed out loud. "Well, the girl was still very much impressed. And you did it sincerely, so you still get points," she answered as she planted a quick kiss on his cheek.
Jun'ichi found himself pleasantly dazed by the gesture, and only snapped out of it when he heard her calling him to hurry up or she'd leave him behind. He grinned and broke into a light jog to catch up. Other couples could keep their expensive restaurants; he was just fine with going to the beach.
