Black tie, in the UK anyway, means cocktail dress. White tie suggests a floor-length gown. Your dress sounds perfect. :)

Hm. I think in Australia black tie and white tie have kind of ended up being stuck together and generally mean "more formal". Not sure if the rules are strictly adhered to anywhere, but especially not at my work, considering most week days are a very casual sort of "business casual".

I wish I could have a picture of the dress to show you! I think it's very pretty.

The dress sounds lovely, not to mention perfect for any weddings you might be invited to :P At our work ball (black tie) there was everything from full length gowns to thigh skimmers. Also in my mind, retro styling automatically makes things more smart.

Not sure how likely it is I'll have a wedding to go to, but it is a dress I could see wearing to summer outdoor parties (if I ever get invited to one of those). It just seems like a very summery dress, which is why I'm not sure if it's right for an evening ball.

But, two votes in favour of! I can't wait for this weekend when I can decide one way or the other!
