NAME: Wufei Chang (prefers it to be said the other way around)

CODENAME:

SERIES/SOURCE: Gundam Wing

AGE: 14

GENDER: Male

ROLE: Student

BACKGROUND: Wufei was born and raised as the heir of a fairly wealthy and traditional clan in China. His powers were discovered early when he was caught playing with a small dragon from one of his story books. As a result, his family’s plans to put him into boarding school were rather quickly changed to tutoring in order to keep his abilities quiet. He was kept somewhat isolated from people outside of the clan and his teachers until he was about twelve and his family decided that it would be safe for him to start boarding school as they’d originally planned.

The school he was sent to was all boys, but with coed extracurricular activities after hours with the girls school nearby, including a martial arts club where he met Meiran Long. They both entered the class at the same level and fell into something between friendship and rivalry. It wasn’t until he returned home for the summer that Wufei started to grow confused on whether or not Meiran actually truly existed, especially when he found she matched a character he’d created during his tutelage. Her absence when he returned to school in the fall only solidified the idea that she'd been his own creation, especially after attempts to track her down failed.

From that point, he dropped his studies and returned home in order to attempt to recreate her, something that quickly became an obsession. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get her "right," and none of his attempts lasted for more than an hour. His family didn't like the idea of Wufei trying to create a human, but found that discouraging the driven heir was much easier said than done. After his attempts left him unconscious for the third time, they sought help from the Institute and sent Wufei there for his own good.

PERSONALITY: Wufei is very bookish and sometimes has trouble interacting with new people due to his early social isolation. For this same reason, he finds himself unsure of how to treat most women unless they're related to him or in an authority position (IE. teachers). To cover that, he's often sharp with them and can come off as rather sexist.

Unless a person manages to hit the right buttons, his temper is slow to rise, but he is likely to try and solidly put down opposition, whether it’s verbally or physically. Wufei reacts badly to defeat, and is likely to pursue a matter until he is satisfied with the result. He doesn’t like to admit his shortcomings, especially gaps in his education since it’s a large point of pride for him. He can usually be found with at least one book on hand, typically fiction as that’s the only thing his power applies to.

In his studies, he favors the hard sciences and history, seeing them as more of a challenge as they are outside of his sphere of influence. Wufei finds it more comfortable to work alone than in a group, and would usually prefer to go to a textbook than a teacher or fellow student for help in pretty much any subject.

APPEARANCE: Wufei is fairly short, reaching only 5’1” in height, slender but tightly muscled from his martial arts training. He has black eyes and shoulder length black hair that is usually kept bound in a tight ponytail. Being fully Chinese, his features and skin tone reflect that heavily. Rather nearsighted from years of reading close to the page, he normally wears glasses and reserves his contacts for fighting alone.

POWERS: Wufei has the ability to pull completely fictional things temporarily into reality. The thing has to exist in a physical form (can't use those on a computer screen, something that annoys him), which he has to have with him unless he is very familiar with it. As for the items, the simpler they are, the easier they are to pull into reality and hold there, especially in the case of multiples. (IE, a pile of wood blocks vs. the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.) Since creations from his own writing depend solely on him, they are the most difficult and in most cases he can only hold one at a time. He's also found that once let go, he cannot pull any of these the same way again. There will always be some differences.

Although he's still trying to improve it, none of his attempts to make people (namely Meiran), have managed to produce more than a very scripted character, mentally remaining in their source. While he holds them, he cannot pull anything else without their vanishing.

ANYTHING ELSE?: Since English will obviously be Wufei’s second language, I’m planning to have him fluent in speech but still struggling with elements of the written form. Due to his pride, he may need to be forced into the ESL class.

On the issue of Meiran, if it's alright, I would like to keep whether she was real or one of Wufei's creations open for now.

- RP SAMPLES

First-person sample:

[Text, Mandarin]

First of all, I would like to know who else here, if anyone, can read this.

[Switch to Voice, English]

Would anyone mind telling me which parts of the mansion are the quietest?

Third-person sample:

Wufei supposed that this wouldn't be too different from his earlier boarding school, even if the class list was a bit... odd in comparison. Of course, so were the students, himself included. Though at least he hadn't had to look up so often to meet his old classmates' eyes.

He walked into the library with a few books under one arm, a half-filled notebook hidden between them. He had yet to be given any restrictions regarding it, but Wufei also didn't know what his parents had said in their letter. He wouldn't let anyone keep him from continuing his efforts to bring her back. With that in mind, he settled at the most out-of-the-way table he could find and set the books aside to focus on his 'project.'
