I looked around for a bit and there's an amazing bunch of fluffy-bunny dream junk on the net. But here's a site that has some quality information on working with dreams. http://www.guidetopsychology.com/dreams.htm
I especially like the section on "Imagery Rehearsal Therapy." I hadn't heard this fancy term before, but I was in a meditation class some years ago and we were doing the same thing via creative visualization. I think the important idea is not to be controlled by dreams or anything else. This is possible by taking an active part in creating the details or outcome of the dream that you wish.
Images are very powerful. It's why I put so much faith in artists. Building positive images is a life long task.
