I met for the second time with my new psychiatrist, and I really like him. However, he dropped a couple of bombs on me. He thinks I have ADD, inattentive type in addition to BP II. He also wants me to get a sleep study because he thinks I may have sleep apnea. And I have to give up tequila! No changes in meds as yet. But two new disorders in one ( Read more... )

Alas, after one memorable night in college, I have never been able to have tequila again :)

Is that mood icon really what it looks like? You go, girl!

hmm..I'm not sure what you think it is. It's part of a set of Viggo mood icons I have.

My advice (unsolicited). Read up on ADD. I have it, and one of the most edifying thing for me has been to read up on. They say that once there is a diagnosis on ADD it's like a light bulb going off (when one learns more about it). It may sound like you've been "labeled" but knowing what I had meant learning about ways to treat it, and cope with it, and live around it, and succeed because of/ and inspite of it. There are strengths to ADD that others don't recognize. It's a powerful thing to be. You're a warrier. Everyone else are clock-watchers and farmers, but you're the one that gets out there and grabs life by the horns and is crazy enough to hold on to them.

Finally, I'm BPII... and it sucks sometimes it really does. But the best thing I've done for that is stay on my meds and when my meds don't feel like their working I really struggle, but I have to make an appointment with the Doc to check in and get a med check.

I'm glad that you have a Doc, my appointment with my new psych isn't until May!

I appreciate your words of encouragement. I am not really a grab life by the horns type. I'm more of the absent minded professor type. Finding a doctor can be difficult; I feel lucky to have found one I like.

ADD sounds a stretch to me, but that's why my degree says "JD" and not "MD" or "Ph.D.".

But I think giving up alcohol is not such a bad thing.

Sleep apnea is not a good thing, but in a way, good, because they can help you with that pretty easily.

Yes, I 'm not too sure about the ADD thing. But my doctor is not medicating me for it just yet until we figure out the other stuff.
