If I recall correctly, I think you may be pretty fucked in that situation. Verizon tends to cripple their phones from being messed with as they don't run the typical OS provided by the phone manufacturer, they run one that's written by Verizon. That said, here's some resources

Try using a program called BitPim. I had an LG VXsomethingorother (the basic red one that you get with a new plan), and even had the USB cable for it, but couldn't transfer files. Once I got the drivers (from the music kit), BitPim was able to connect to it, and I could transfer pictures, movies, saved texts, ringtones, etc.
