It had been at college that Sam had finally figured it out (in between the homework and the parties and the tests). Once she'd escaped out from under their dad's thumb and the martial law that was the Winchester family. Once she could see a future for herself where she wasn't their father's soldier.
She realized that she had never been - would never be - John Winchester's little girl. That was someone else's life, not the one Sam wanted to live.
Sam wasn't John Winchester's anything. And Sam wasn't anybody's little girl.
No, all Samantha Winchester wanted was to be himself.
