I'm still mourning a little cafe on 16th Street that was in the building where my first job was here in DC. It was run by this adorable older couple and the food was always delicous and affordable.
I'm with you. I actually posted a myspace blog about that a few wks ago. Breaks my heart, what's happening to this city. The mega-corps are moving in, the mom 'n pops are dying. Housing is impossible, more than ever. Met Life is selling the last bastion of middle class affordability, Stuy Town & Peter Cooper Village & it'll turn into more luxury housing that no one but the rich can afford
( ... )
Sigh you sound like me walking thru a city that the administration has decided is no longer for people but for owners. I expect eventualy high security gates will be errected round the city to keep out the rifraff.
W just went thru our own brush with our freefuckingmarket landlord trying to get us out so he can jack the rents up.
Staying in Soho this summer i couldent get the ghosts out of my head of the eagle diner that used to be on the corner of broadway and spring and the host of gallerys and other wonders of the area long gone.
Found a small sliver of the past hidden in a parking lot on wosster street a wall mural by rene "I am the best artist" right across from where his gallery used to be.
