In which the World Tree is blatant, the Tardis is a Goddess, Clara's lessons about Death continue, the Doctor is in denial, Clara is most certainly not an android and a million other very interesting things occur.

Secrets protect us. Secrets make us safe. )

With Moff's nods (sub textually) to eyes I have found myself wondering if any of this links back to Classic Who. Now, I know very little of the original, but Googling reveals all kinds of interesting things.

Re the bottles in the library, in the spin-off Who books there were, apparently, whole universes in a bottle. And the most important image of an eye may not be the eye of harmony but the untempered Schism. What did the Doctor see, when he was eight? What has he been running from ever since?

LOVE that you link the symbolism inherent in this episode with the TAROT.

Oooh, I've seen some classic Who but the bottled Universes are something I didn't know. That moment in the Library with whishpers spilling out of the bottle reminded me oddly of the chamber where all the prophecies are kept in Harry Potter (Order of the Phoenix, was it?)

Yeah, the Untempered Schism... I've always wondered what the Doctor saw when he looked inside that. The Eye of Harmony - presumably there was one located in each Tardis, is almost a symbolic mirror of that I guess. I'm having half formed thoughts about that. The Schism is a fundamental part of Timelord Initiation, and it made them what they were. Thoughts will not compute.

It was when he was stood on the edge of that cliff, and i was like "Tarot!!!" I am pretty sure there are some other uses of Tarot in this ep too, ubt i haven't had time to delve into it yet.

Since you called in the Kabbalry (I wish I could CC: janie-aire on this):

Van Baalen Bros -- is that Baal as in Baal Shem?

"His name is the Doctor" indeed...

Fantastic catch!!!!! Really, never got that at all. The link is perfect. Have you sene the finale?

if not, a spoiler follows.....

River is the only one who both knows and willingly uses his name. So she would be like his Baal Shem - the priestess who speaks the word, and who has a direct line to him as an echo that is always with him.

Lovely meta, I noticed a lot of the world tree stuff going on as well.
I am, however, going to disagree with you on Clara's scene in the library being a mirror to River in the library, a reference perhaps but not a mirror. This is because if you go back and pay close attention to each of the burnt selves the one that chases Clara in the library is in fact the Doctor (indicated by hand over the face).

Thank you, glad you enjoyed!

Yeah, i agree with you there actually. I think the reference is still there especially with Clara seeing his name in the Libraty, but it's a dead Doctor who is chasing her.

Thanks for reading.
