In regards to your comment number 2, I thought we wanted the city to take it over that way the park could possibly have better funding and publicity. I talked to Mr. Henderson about it he said that if we did skate downtown that we probably wouldn't even get caugt or something and that there would be no way to stop it. We can still skate everywhere else which is nice and at least the park didnt get shut down.
ps i hope old school ends up working down at the park.
When you and I met with Austin Morris and the others, it sounded very enticing to have city funding to support the park. Since then I have realized that the city is likely to create additional rules, and may even mismanage the park to it's demise (as they almost did with the skatium). There is certainly a posibility that this could turn out to be benificial in the long run, but regardless, I would like to have seen Aaron still be able to run it. He has been more than fair with us and I'll be sorry to see him go.
Shawn is staying though and he is a nice kid, he could be good at running the park with a little help. Aaron is talking about opening up a skate shop then possibly a skate park or something. Whcih reminds me, did you hear anything about when they are going to begin the contruction of the new Cape Coral Park?
I think you already know what you should do. If those issues would upset you so much that it would occupy your mind constantly while working there, then you by no means should. However, if you feel that those are elements of a larger picture that you indeed disagree with but can overcome while still remaining loyal to yourself and your beliefs, then try to look past them for the time being. Good luck with your decision. I know it must be tough, but don't forget that almost all the kids in Fort Myers have your back and are supporting whatever you do. I'm here if you need me... ♥
infiltrate from within. work there, and keep as much of the same atmosphere as you can...and if the city doesnt like the way youre doing it, theyll fire you. but at least you gave it a shot.
my vote, to both you and old school taking the jobs, is yay.
You could always quit.landerroarkAugust 26 2004, 17:51:42 UTC
But if you got the job there you would have more influence and be their go to man when they have questions. If things got really lame you could break all the rules and force them to fire you, but only after making a big scene happen.... you know, letting tons of kids in for free and without pads or whatever. Cities may be lame with rules and all that junk, but it seems that they do eventually listen and try to bend a little. Orlando made skating downtown a crime a few years ago..... it lasted a few months, then faded away until everyone forgot about the rule. Then they build a skatepark.... but charged $12 for a session that required all pads. But after a few months of complaining and stuff, they made tuesdays free and now you only have to wear a helmet. Still far from the final goal, but one step closer is better than standing in the same place and complaining.
