1984

I've finally read Nineteen Eighty- Four. I've been meaning to for years. I'm glad I did but it's not what I was expecting, somehow. I'm not quite sure what I expected, but this wasn't it. I knew it was going to be depressing though, so it wasn't that.

I found it scary when I first read it, way back when the dinosaurs were still around. Now days, it seems tame. There was another book out about 10 years ago and that also scared my pants off. It took 1984 much farther. ( the govermrnt was controlled by big business, policies were made to make bucks, and nothing else it would seem and they had an on going war with no end in sight)
Now thats scary!

I think what bothered me about it was that ... they actually prompted him thinking differently, so that they could tear him down later. They let him get that far with it, and THEN were like 'yeah by the way, we're the Thought Police '
And also I didn't really understand why they'd want the whole world to be that mindless (as was said by O'brien near the end). I could see it if they were mainly interested in controlling the Proles and also having random things like physical jerks and thought police, but the whole thing about never having family, never having a past, etc, that just... made no sense to me as a concept that they could come up with.
