"Good Question"ancientoneNovember 11 2008, 06:15:33 UTC
I've had many good friends in my life. Some, are there for only the briefest time. Thats sad. I miss them as I grow up, but they had to take a different path than the one I'm on. What endeared themselves to me was that I could tell them absolutely anything without fear of being misunderstood. And even if I was misunderstood, I knew they cared enough to listen to me. What a good friend should never do is abuse the relationship. Treasure it. Don't use it for personal gain

I agree with don't suffocate them, but I also feel that trying to see people is a good part of being a friend, and that being upset if someone keeps brushing you off is pretty normal...
I think the two biggest qualities in a good friend are that they:
Never judge or look down on you for your faults and shortcomings.
Are willing to stick around even in the moments when you can be unbearable (e.g. when you are obsessed with something, overanalyzing things, too excited/depressed about something).
I choose those two qualities because they were the two that were always lacking when I lost friends-they weren't willing to stick around look over the fact that I can be pretty damn obnoxious sometimes. (Hell, we all can.)
