to make myself clear

An entry by susanweise made me write this entry - well more or less. It's about Nighwish becomming more and more famous, selling more and more records and becomming what people call "mainstream". Some "fans" don't like this because... hm... not easy to say why they don't like it. To me it's always they want to be someone special knowing a band most of the ( Read more... )

I agree with everything you've said. call me "nemo kiddie" - I got called a "black album baby" because Metallica's black album got me into their music, so don't feel bad. It's a shame when you find a band who was underground, got popular, and then you jump on and like them too, but everyone thinks you like them only because they're popular.

And I used to listen to Backstreet Boys too, hee hee!

I hate the snobbery associated with being a fan of a particular band or music. I hate what I call music bores who think that you can only be cool if you know all the so called ultra hip bands that relase a 12 hour album of a cat coughing up hairballs....you know the kind of stuff I mean. If that band goes big suddenly everyones accused of jumping on the bandwagon, not so. Surely the advantage of a band hitting the big time is that they can gain more fans so more people get to hear the music they make.

anyway its late and I'm rambling....I think I had a point in ther esomewhere :D

don't know if I got you correct but my post was about being a fan of a popular band and being judged for that, but negative. So the "real" Nightwish fans who know them from the beginning say fans who discovered them this year or whatever aren't real fans because they now just listen to them because Nightwish are popular now. The hardcore fans want Nightwish for their own... the best is, no merchandising or anything, small location for concerts and such... don't make them known by the "mainstream". And this is what I hate. I don't listen to them because they are mainstream but because of the reasons I mentioned in my posts, but often this isn't recognised and when you say to "old" fans "I know nightwish since Nemo" they laugh at you and don't call you a real fan ( ... )
