Steiji tuu staato!

Well, phase one was completed yesterday afternoon at 3.20pm when I flew out from Beijing international airport. China was awesome, I wish I could have seen more of it and been there longer, I barely scratched the surface.
So, things I can tick off my list:

  • Walking along the Great Wall of China
  • Seeing the Forbidden City
  • Bartering for fake Chanel at the Silk Market Move along, nothing to see here...
  • Losing and then miraculously regaining my bank card in the scariest two hours of my life.
  • Touring the Olympic Stadium
  • Being grossed out by all the spitting
  • Taking a hard sleeper train from Nanning to Guangzhou and not understanding a word of what was being said around me or where I was going, and feeling like a product on a supermarket shelf.
  • Taking in the sights and sounds of Hong Kong
  • Taking a 24hr soft sleeper to Beijing
  • Eating meat dumplings for breakfast... mmmm, yummy!
  •

So, where am I now?

I AM IN JAPAN OH YES I AM AND IT IS AMAZING, I HAVE BEEN GRINNING LIKE A LOON ALL DAY AND THERE ARE SAKURA TREES IN BLOOM  AND EVERYTHING IS PERFECT YES IT IS.

This morning, my cousin Ed and I went to Meiji Shrine in Yoyogi Park and took photos, then had some lunch (buckwheat soba with herring and sushi, mmmm!), then we took in the blossoms in the park before heading over to Shinjiku, which is an even more beautiful park with even prettier trees. The blossom is just heavenly.

After wandering around, and heading up to the top of the Municipal Government Tower to check in the staggering views of Tokyo, we went and had dinner in an awesome restaurant and had seriously good sashimi and gyouza and the most amazing thing ever which is mochi bacon, we headed back to Aoto where Ed's apartment is. Pretty full day of sightseeing all in all, but I'll be seeing more of Tokyo when my girlies get out here next week. Tomorrow, after I buy my copy of Shounen Jump on the day it's released, I'm going to make use of my very very expensive rail pass and head out to Nara to see the deer. And the castles and the shrines. From there I might go onto Hiroshima or Kyoto, haven't decided.

And what makes the fact that I am in Japan, and have been walking around Tokyo smiling and trying out my Japanese on everyone is that these three weeks are not the only weeks I will be spending in Japan this year. In fact, all in all I'm going to be spending rather more than a few weeks in Japan.
Because
I GOT ONTO JET!
