I used to lurk around this community years ago when it was last active under the name psych_out, and seeing actual life here caused me to want to rejoin (complete with a Les Miserables-inspired username--I'm a well-rounded nerd ;D). 
I have been a 1776 fan for years, have something resembling the beginnings of a historical fiction novel kicking ( Read more... )

Acting is acting. Gender shouldn't matter to a role, because damn it you're all ACTORS because of a REASON.

I am totally in support of this, with the caveat stated above.

Complete and TOTAL support!!! In fact, my girlfriend and I really wanted to direct an all-female cast of 1776 at our women's college! (We got turned down because the theatre org had already spent all its money and then some on Cabaret, but still...) I would love to have seen that production.

Glad to see positive reactions to this; I saw a thread on Broadway World that was less than enthusiastic...
But I agree. From what I've seen and read (still hoping for a video/audio clip to show up somewhere), the actresses really *got* the characters and played them as well as any of their male counterparts (and considerably better than some, I'm sure). :)

Same here!!! I was a main member of this community a couple years ago... and I'm shocked and VERY pleased that there is life here!!!

Oh, and I'm a theatre major.... and my dream role is Dickinson.

Where in the hell was I?! I would have looooved to be in this production. Aw man.
