Do they naturally kiss each other on the cheek as a greeting? If so, was it scary or nerve racking when someone sort of surprised you with one?

yes indeed. here in the south, (montpellier) we do it three times, in other places they do it two times, others four. it depends on the region. At first it was funny, i giggled a little, kept accidentally smashing my cheek onto other's cheeks, forgetting the third kiss, forgetting which side to start on, and due to the confusion accidentally pecking on the mouth. haha. France is great, you'd never think that greeting someone would be such an adventure!

I like how many people greet with kisses on the cheek. I think it's a fun way to greet and I like how the context of kissing is pretty solidified. If I kissed someone on the cheek here, they'd probably think it's something sexual. Damn America and its sex-heavy thinking. Kissing to me is just a kind gesture unless you have some real direct sexual implications.

That's what pisses me off about guys wanting to see girls kiss. Seriously, it's a god damned kiss, you see people do it all the time, I don't get what's so erotic about it, especially when it's for something cheap like that and not out of passion, unless your passion is getting off on people locking lips. I mean, shit, I kiss my mother and you don't see anyone pitching a tent.

I think I've gone on a tangent long enough. How long do you have left in France?
