Prompt 19: Ten Nightmares/Dreams I've Had

Aug 21, 2007 16:00

The first five will be bad dreams, and the last five will be good dreams. Because I have a lot of both.

1. I sometimes have dreams that my mother finds me. But I think about that happening a lot more when I'm awake than when I'm asleep.

2. Last night I dreamed that my aunt finally decided that she didn't want me living with her anymore, so she called the hospital I was at before and told them to take me away. A man who worked there came and picked me up, only suddenly he was my father. I was the only person in the dream who thought that this was strange.

3. A couple times I've dreamed that I couldn't talk. If Aunt Meredith dreamed this, she'd probably think it was a good dream.

4. Once I dreamed that I started stealing Lindsay's money. I didn't have a reason for it, even in the dream, but I did it anyway. I thought that if I got caught I would go to jail, but I didn't care because if I got caught, I was going to say that Will took it and buried it in the backyard, and that Veronica knew about it and let him do it anyway (I know that that doesn't make much sense, but I guess dreams don't sometimes). I didn't care if I they were sent to jail, just so long as I wasn't. When I woke up, I spent a long time wondering if I would ever really do something that mean.

5. I've had this last nightmare over and over again. Maybe not so much now, but still. I go back to the day my mother ran away, and see everything that happened that day all over again, right up to the point where, in real life, she threw the axe on the floor and ran out the door. But she doesn't do that in the nightmare. In the nightmare, she keeps holding the axe, and she walks toward me.

6. When I was in New York, I once had a dream that I woke up real early one morning, took all of my mother's drug money- not just a few dollars, but all of it- and left. I went outside and got a taxi, and the driver wasn't suspicious or anything, even though I was just a little kid. I didn't even need to tell him where I wanted to go. He just drove away, over the George Washington bridge and out of the city, and he kept going and going and I knew that I was never coming back. And when I woke up, it was really early in the morning, and I almost did it.

7. Once I dreamed that the Golds called me on the phone and told me that they had changed their minds, and that I could go in their woods and fields any time I wanted. I woke up before I could actually do it, though- this one was a short dream.

8. A couple weeks ago I had a dream that I was back in Central Park, and it was really crowded with tourists and homeless people and other New Yorkers. And everyone's skin was green. That's basically all that I remember about it. I don't know if it was really a good dream, but it definitely wasn't a nightmare. I just thought it was interesting.

9. I dreamed that Veronica took me to a party with her, because in the dream I was her age. I mean, I was still exactly the same as I am now, except in the dream everyone said I was fourteen. (That doesn't make any sense, but that's how it happened.) After the party we drove around the town in a convertible and listened to Billy Joel and Simon & Garfunkel songs really loud on the radio, and no one told us to turn it down. And Veronica said she had been just kidding when she told me she hated me and wished I had never come to live with them. That was the part I liked the best.

10. I don't usually have the same dream more than once, especially if it's good, but I have my favorite dream every couple of weeks. In it, someone is holding me in their arms, and stroking my hair. I don't know who it is because I never look up to see their face, but I somehow know that they love me and that they won't let anything bad happen to me. I wish I could look, because I want to know who it is so I can go and find them.
