Discrepancy

So I sat down again today to read Fight Club the novel... and I was wondering if anyone noticed and cared to explain a discrepancy at the begginning of the book. It says that "Jack" has been going to Remaining Men Together for two years, then later it explains that Bob has had testicular cancer for 6 months... then fastforward and you have Jack

maybe he was telling the other guy about something that happend two years ago ...

I have never read the book .. im just guessing from what you have said.

perhaps it means to say that Bob had had testicular cancer for 6 months when "jack" met him?

or maybe he'd only had his testicles removed for 6 months, but had testicular cancer before that?

or maybe just poor editing!
