Character Name: Eirin Yagokoro

Character Series: Touhou Project

Character Age: Unknown, but is said to be much older than 1,400 years

Background: Link to her article on the Touhou Wiki

Personality: At her core, Eirin is driven by an unending curiosity and a desire to learn. Her intelligence is at genius level, and her ability as a doctor is peerless. She has no problem using complex scientific terms in ordinary conversation. She's constantly coming up with new medicine, and is always looking for new patients to test them on. When faced with a goddess who had frog traits, there were heavy implications that Eirin was interested in dissecting her to see how far those similarities went.

Eirin has no problem dealing with high stature such as high ranking officials or even gods. She helped found the Lunarian society alongside Tsukuyomi, the moon god of Shintoism. She's shrewd when it comes to both politics and social relations. In a way, she's a manipulator and is not afraid to use others to get her desired outcome. Throughout her exile in Eientei, she was always careful not to be brought back into Lunarian politics. Indeed, she even had planned for the inevitability that someone would try to use her former high standing in Lunarian society.

While she handles herself with grace and dignity, Eirin can be dangerously ruthless when the situation calls for it. She's something of a sadist, handing on rather harsh punishments for the minor offenses that her subordinate Reisen makes. It's heavily implied that when she was sent with a delegation of soldiers to retrieve Kaguya from her exile, she slaughtered them in order to abscond with the former moon princess. She swore to make the person trying to use her in a dispute in Lunarian politics pay, and it wouldn't be hard to imagine the person's punishment being quite excruciating.

It wouldn't be hard to say that the one value that Eirin holds above all others is responsibility. When she entrusted the hourai elixir to Kaguya, she drank it and obtained immortality. For this crime, she was exiled from the moon to earth. Eirin was plagued by guilt, assuming responsibility for her exile. Four hundred years later, she was sent to retrieve Kaguya from her exile, by force if necessary. It was meaningless, as Kaguya would never be able to fit into Lunarian society again. Kaguya recognized this, and refused to return. As stated above, Eirin then killed the other Lunarians she was with and started to live her life in exile with her and promising to look after Kaguya as a part of her responsibility. She also has offered her skills as a doctor to the residents of Gensokyo saying, "We'll have to live as Earth people now, so we can't neglect our duties towards others. It's customary for Earth people to help others in need." This value of responsibility extends to others as well. She often holds Reisen as responsible for most of the antics that happen around Eientei. It doesn't help that Reisen is one of the few competent ones around the place either.

In an interesting case of duality, Eirin has been shown to have an infinite patience and at the same time a fiery temper. To those she cares about, she will put up with their shenanigans and questions for an indefinite time. Kaguya for the most part just lazes around and is constantly confused by Eirin's complicated terminology. Nevertheless, Eirin tries to explain her phrasing to the best of her abilities and shows a nigh unending patience in dealing with the princess. However she would not show others such grace, and indeed openly insults those who annoy her, calling them fools or worse. Often she has to tell people to trust her, as for the most part they can never understand what she's talking about.

Abilities: First and foremost, Eirin is a brilliant doctor, particularly in the field of pharmacology. The medicine she makes is quite potent and has little to no side effects in their use. Her skill is so great that she is capable of crafting elixirs of life, so long as she has the right supplies. It's unstated if she's actually had the elixir herself, but she's certainly extended her life through her medicine. It's stated that she's been working with medicine for so long that poison no longer effects her.

Eirin has the ability to use Danmaku in battle. Simply stated, danmaku is dozens of non deadly energy projectiles arranged in stunning patterns. More complex versions of Danmaku are known as spell cards. Eirin is also capable of using a bow, and has been depicted as firing danmaku with it. Also she can fly

Oh yeah and she can seal the earth in magical chamber which prevents others, such as Lunarian ambassadors, from going to the earth. There's no real stated reason for how she manages to do this. Touhou sure is crazy!

Sample Entry: [ Eirin gave a low sigh as she browsed through the drug aisle of the local grocery store. The names for the variety of medicines were not the ones she was used to. While the labels certainly did tell her what the effects would be, they did little to alert her to the chemical composition. If she wanted to make her own from these, it would be a hazardous guessing game at best. She could test them in different combinations and build from there, but who would she use? Normally the rabbits back home were hardy creatures and would be able to withstand anything she made, but unfortunately they were not present. A devious smile crossed her face as she turned over a bottle, squinting at the tiny text. ]

Perhaps the drones...
