can anyone explain this to me?

Does anyone know anything about the body chemistry of hair? I gave one of my co-workers shampoo for Xmas, because her wet freshly washed hair kept giving me a migraine. So I gave her the shampoo that I myself use. Well, a few days ago - while looking over my shoulder at my computer, she took her hair down from a bun it had been in since it was ( Read more... )

I'll forward this to a friend of mine who is a microbiologist. She might have some insight into it.

Of course, there could be conditioner involved. But then I again I'd have to assume you covered that.
Also, if it is L, she does tend to wear purfume. She might have some residue left on her sometimes...

It's a 2-in-one so no conditioner is required. Yes, this was L. I had no idea she tends to wear perfume... she never does at the office. She rode her bike to work and took a Kristin safe shower using my shampoo and deodorant. And ended up giving me a migraine anyway. Sigh. I think I just need to stay away from her when her hair is wet. It's only wet hair from her that has ever zapped me.

Tends... anigma_i August 28 2006, 19:35:58 UTC
Maybe 'tends' is too strong a word. In the past, when going out, she has worn perfume. But usually that is in more fancy situations. But she may be doing that more since she's going into DC a lot.
In any case, I am sure she is careful about it. Still a mystery.

This is what my microbiologist friend had to say:

Well, I talked to my friend the amazing biochemist, and he says that really, it could be just about anything from the woman's personal body odor of wet hair to the dampness in her hair changing her biometrics. As scientists, we totally believe her when she says that the wet hair is the trigger, but we can't narrow it down to a single chemical. Possibly a specialist in migraines could. Good luck to her.

So ... yes, as some others have mentioned it could indeed be specifically her wet hair as opposed to any particular shampoo.
