Step repair and rebuilding

Well. What was starting out as a simple repair job on the front steps of my late grandmother's house has turned into a replacement project. Seems not only are half of the cinder blocks that constitute the foundation for the steps cracked and breaking... but the edges of the cement slab on top has turned to sand. Actually, once water starts getting into the concrete, the rebar becomes your worst enemy. The iron rusts, expands and accelerates the breaking process. Sorry about the repair job. It's often distressing how many minor home repair jobs turn into big piles of money being stacked up and burned on the lawn.
