Honour-Killings...Grandmother Jailed For Life

 A few months ago, I heard of a story regarding the murder of a young Sikh woman - the murder which was committed by her mother-in-law. Only this morning, I heard on the radio that grandmother who murdered her daughter-in-law was given a life sentence. Her son was also sent to jail for 27 years.

Justice is very late in coming for poor Surjit. But bravo to the witnesses for finally coming forward and testifying and to Judge Forrester for handing down these sentences.

Unfortunately, I think until more people share our outrage, these crimes will continue. At least in this case, some form of justice eventually was delivered. In Jordan (and elsewhere), there are actually laws on the books that offer leniency to the perpetrators of "honor" killings, so much so that the average sentence is six months.

Thank you for your comment. I completely agree with you - I think that more people need to express their views on these honour killings. There is no honour in them. I cannot beleive that these people can actually get only a sentence of 6 months! Honour killings are still murder... and I'm sure you'd get a longer sentence for murder...
