New Year's meme, 2017 edition.
1. What did you do in 2017 that you'd never done before? Left LiveJournal, for one. There are other less flippant things that I've done, and I remember thinking, "I need to remember that for the entry!" and I can't remember them right now. Was one of them supposed to be the Tesla test drive I rode along in? Probably not, that was this past weekend.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? No 10K, no 10-minute mile. Kept up with 10,000 steps a day, though, with a few exceptions here and there.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Yes, in February, as mentioned in my previous iteration.
4. Did anyone close to you die? Thankfully not. I discovered an old coworker passed, however.
5. What countries did you visit? China was the big one this year.
6. What would you like to have in 2018 that you lacked in 2017? I want for very little, I've discovered. The things I have are very nice, and I would probably be happy to not have anything significantly new unless it's replacing something I already own.
7. What date from 2017 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? Very little remains etched in my memory by date.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Managing to lay my cards on the table early on when courting a girl. Not a full-on declaration, of course, just that I was interested. She was flattered, at least.
9. What was your biggest failure? Putting off my Swiss driver's license. Again.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? A cold, maybe? Skinned my knee, I guess.
11. What was the best thing you bought? A phone whose provider will likely slow it down next year, but at least I can open it by looking at it.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? Some of my friends were Time's Person of the Year.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? I don't know yet; none of them have been outed if they've done anything.
14. Where did most of your money go? Food, movies, mortgage, etc.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Star Wars, Rock Band, etc.
16. What songs will always remind you of 2017? Nandemonaiya! and virtually anything off of the Your Name soundtrack.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you...
i. happier or sadder? Happier, definitely. I'm out of the hole I was in last year.
ii. thinner or fatter? About the same.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer, thanks to overtime.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Doing things.

20. How did you spend Christmas Break? Mostly with friends. Also with family.
21. Who did you spend most time on the phone with? Grandmother and parents, probably. Mostly WhatsApp nowadays.
22. Did you fall in love in 2017? There's a strong infatuation, certainly.
23. How many one night stands? Still none.
24. What was your favourite TV program? The Good Place takes the cake this year.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? There was an entire scandal about it and everything. And discovering that the man who wrote the manga I loved so much that spent a good amount of time localizing it is a purveyor of child pornography was the cherry on top.
26. What was the best book you read? I need to read books (that I'm not editing) again.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? Radwimps, thanks to Your Name. Also DropMix is a blast.
28. What did you want and get? Stuff.
29. What did you want and not get? Stuff.
30. What was your favorite film of this year? I saw The Last Jedi three times in one week, but I think the actual award goes to Your Name, which may have had its (sadly unsuccessful) Oscar run last year but I only watched when it came to Blu-ray. But I watched it a lot.
31. What did you do on your birthday? Had a picnic with friends, reformatted my computer after it started crashing at startup. The day after, though, was a Postmodern Jukebox concert.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? I'm making my own life more satisfying, thank you very much.
