There were a few months there when we were scrambling to get ready for the wedding. During that time I tried to put together a sort of alphabet of what things are like now, because I couldn't figure out an orderly way to catch up and 26 assorted statements seemed as effective as anything.

The last group of transitional-contract people left today: another damn round of teary goodbyes. This lot included Carol and SJ. Also cdy, but effectively he's been checked out since the start, and hasn't been around in person for months. So where was I?

Back in November I wrote that things had been happening very fast, and then I said the same thing again in February. From the perspective of right now, things hadn't even begun to happen back then.

I don't know how I can possibly catch up. I'm going to excerpt bits from email and texts involving various friends. ( It's more of a collage than a narrative and I don't really expect anyone to follow it. )

Driving down was fun. I went to Modesto the night before so Lisa and the dogs and I could hit the road early. We sang along to a lot of tunes, didn't stop to eat, made it in decent time, and checked into the airbnb house by mid-afternoon ( Read more... )
