Since things have gone a little quiet in the world of wimseyfic, I entertained myself thinking about some of the ways it could all have gone horribly wrong after Gaudy Night.

Oh dear, this does sound like it has potential to be grim -- a slow slide can end more badly than any sudden, dramatic downturn of events. I'm curious about the indiscretion -- my first thought was, naturally, of the Viennese singer but presumably Peter would have been on the ball enough to hear about any developments in that direction. It is a little hard to picture Harriet deciding on a baby as project, considering how clear GN makes it that people-as-projects is a very bad way to live, unless she thinks pregnancy and the resulting baby will kick-start her writing again.

New Wimseyfic is just the thing for the post-Easter back-to-work slump. I am intrigued by the thought of some of the many ways it could have gone wrong since Gaudy Night (and goodness knows there is a lot of potential there), and look forward to the revelation of this particular set (and the Past Indiscretions, which seem likely to trend in one direction)...
