There was a rather angry call from the Chinese food restaurant Lor had ordered from the night before. She coughed it up to an emergency and told them her next order.
They called three times while en route to make sure the illustrious detective was where she said she'd be.
Paying the bill from the night before, and the new one Loraine couldn't help but feel guilty. She had afterall made the young delivery boy's life a living hell the night before.
But it was more then worth it.
Loraine had slept wonderfully in the morning, waking at about one in the afternoon to go over case filed Dave Henry left for her along with a rather touching note.
Lor,
Babe you're scaring me. You do this all the time. Go out on your own, don't tell a soul.
What if some creep hit on you.
What if some sick monster got a hold of you and you died?
Do you think any of us down here could stand seeing your face on the pavement in some back alley?? It's not safe. Stop acting like an irresponsible kid. Grow up.
~Dave.
Snickering at the accuracy of his letter she ate the lomein with a pair of chopsticks with the case file beside her.
It was a refreshing start. Stabbing victim and rape. And Loraine was glad it wasn't a 'mysterious puncture wound victim'.
She didn't know what she would do if faced with that kind of problem again.
4:12pm.
Time seemed to crawl as she closed the file and got dressed. She wasn't scheduled to start until 6:30. The bitch shift. 6:30pm to 3:00am. It stunk and was mostly desk work and somehow she wanted nothing more then to be walking the streets waiting aimlessly for-
Grow up Lor.
Coyle grabbed her files and locked her door behind her. It was cool outside but not chilly as she walked to the subway and ended up at the station.
"Bloody hell! You're alive!" A few buddies of hers cast casual remarks but a few took a second glance. Loraine didn't tie the hair back today, and she seemed different then she normally looked.
Loraine wasn't sporting her usual scowl.
"Alive and kicking. Get off my desk." The man was leaning against her desk and raised his hands defensively with a grin.
"You're early Coyle." The Captain came out of his office and slapped a new stack of files on her desk.
"Better then late."
"Better then not showing up. What the hell was with last night? And the night before?" Lor took a deep breath and sat back in her chair.
"Havn't used my vacation days in three years. Or my sick days. So did it really hurt?" For a moment it looked like the Captain was going to rip her a new whole but he merely smiled and walked away.
"Get to work."
As 6:30 rolled around Dave found his way across from Lor.
"Alive I see."
"Why is everyone suprised?" He smirked at her comment and shrugged.
"What'd you do?"
"Wore provocative clothing, hit on random men, woke up somewhere strange with three sexually transmitted diseases." Lor looked up to smirk. "You?"
"Cute. Stayed with Carol."
"Ahhhh. Carol. Is she the red head, or the blond?" Dave seemed a little lost.
"Blond? There was a blonde?"
"There was a blond that didn't know you existed but you seemed to have her phone number, address and her permanent reccord. So yes, there was a blond." Dave took a long sip from his coffee.
"Central park." The Captain yelled out of the office. Lor and Dave just looked a bit shocked but he waved at them.
"Go. Now."
"Well that was rather vague." Getting her coat she followed Dave as they moved to a black car waiting in the street for them.
"Want a coffee before we go?" Loraine shook her head and rested back in the seat.
"I'm not tired today."
