Yuletide - TheTV Edition

Jan 03, 2011 10:57

I am feeling a little more human today, though still not quite - at least I am not fool enough to say I will never drink again. I have more RSC booked after all.  So... Post number 2. This time it's TV fandoms. :D

DOWNTON ABBEY

Downton somewhat swallowed my attention at the end of last year, with all it's marvellous sparkly characters and the promise of something darker to come. Which reminds me, I went to a fundraiser last year, where Dan Stevens turned up and was lovely and entertaining and it was mentioned that he has been signed up for the next two seasons of Downton - so 1) there are going to be 3 seasons, yay :D and 2) he is probably going to survive the war.

The war brings meetings under unusual circumstances.
PG, 2,180 words, F/M, Sybil/Branson
It is difficult to think of the future of Downton at this point without the shadow of the war over it, which is part of the appeal for me and as Sybil is one of my favourites, I've spent a fair amount of time wondering what would happen to her and I sort of want to write epic fic about her working with the Queen Alexandra's Nurses. Instead though this is a little stolen moment of her meeting  Branson again and it was lovely fun to explore what the war would do to the power dynamics between them. Even if it did make me cry a little.

Thomas is restless and, as it turns out, he's not alone.
Teen, 1,698 words, M/M, Thomas/William
I hadn't much considered this pairing before seeing the prompt, even though I am incredibly fond of both characters - but I loved the idea of being fascinated by something creative, like piano playing - I've definitely experienced that. Competency/creativity kink and all. And I'd just watched the deleted scenes for episode 4 where Thomas quotes Shakespeare and the two ideas got mixed together and this spilled out. Finding the right quote/sonnet was a headache and in the end once I picked Sonnet 129 it defined the story more than anything else - it became much more about Thomas working out his relationship with the Duke. Re-exploring it and re-claiming his power. This was probably the story I re-wrote the most, the opening didn't work for ages and I struggled to get the balance between Thomas being forced to leave and not being forced into the actual kissing/sex. But I was pleased with how it worked out in the end. And am now in love with the ship.

THE IT CROWD

The Date Movie by lorannah for hanelissar
Sometimes Moss just has to take things into his own hands. He has a pointing finger and he's not afraid to use it.
PG, 1,281 words, Gen-mostly but a bit of Jen/Roy
Hee. I love the IT crowd and they showed the whole of Season 4 on Christmas Day and so I couldn't resist writing a quick story for this fandom and enjoy Jen/Roy in all their faily glory. I just wish I'd had longer to write it, so I could have actually gone into Jen's revenge or all the ridiculous ways Roy tried to win her back. Alas.

One more post to come.
