It is actually kinda of ignorant to say merry christmas unless u know for a fact that person is a christian. America is a country of diversity. There is no official religion of the nation and definently not everyone believes that Jesus Christ is the mesiah. Happy holidays is all inclusive, even for atheists. SO lets be considerate...its not a load of bull crap.
Is it honestly something to get mad about though? Stores have been saying that to customers for forever, why is it a problem all of the sudden? Maybe I just don't understand it.
however, as is becoming more and more obvious as time goes by, Christmas is not only a Christian holiday. the secular 'santa claus' part of Christmas is becoming more and more prevalent, and is celebrated by the vast majority of Americans, Christian or not. and im sure that nobody would object to a friendly 'merry christmas', whether they believe the story of the Christ child or not.
I think its the exact opposite. I believe that Santa is actually just a symbol of the Holiday season, holdays including all sects of religion. Saying "Merry Christmas" is assuming that the person is christian. There is a rising muslim population in our nation, who obviously dont celebrate christmas. What about the Hindus? Jews? I have no problem with saying merry christmas...but say it to a person who u are one hundred percent positive is a christian. Be open minded and realize not every person in the US is a christian.
