1. Summoning Class - Mateira

Jan 18, 2006 15:25

Sunlight filtered down through the leaves and onto the floor of the enclosed courtyard that Braska had chosen for his first proper class. The summoner didn’t have a classroom as such, his spells and summons needing a much wider area to be worked in.

“As you may have seen in the campus journals, I posted a vague outline of what I will be teaching you," he said to his four students as they sat on the benches in the shade. “The reason for this vagueness is that the less the other students know of the mechanics of summoning, the less trouble there is likely to be from inexperienced students trying to call on something they don’t understand and certainly can‘t control.”

“This is the first year summoning has been offered although the school has been operating for much longer than that. When I was first asked to teach summoning, I traveled to each of the home worlds of students who would be attending here. On my journey I studied various summoning and magic techniques so that I could share as much information as possible with prospective students. This is what I will be teaching you first,” the summoner said as he pulled a locked box from his robe.

“In my travels I learnt about many forms of summoning. I will not be teaching Runeology from Mr. Silverberg’s world as I am still learning about the technique myself. Perhaps in a few more years.”

Opening the box, Braska pulled a small red orb out from the velvet lined box and held it up for his students to see.

“This is a Summon Materia belonging to the world that Mr. Strife and Mr. Jenova come from. They are usually attached to either a weapon or another article like a bracelet or necklace and used in confrontations to summon creatures to aid whoever has the orb. Some attack your foe while others provide you and your companions with protection. This is the easiest of the Summoning powers that I will teach you as really anyone can use it. Hence it being kept under the strictest security. I suggest that each of you have a secure location to keep your Summoning items. Do not tell your room mates where it is…do not tell anyone except me,” Braska commanded, looking at each of the young men before him. “I will keep your chosen orbs until you can show me a secure place to keep them.”

“For today’s class I will allow you to use any of the materia here,” the summoner said, placing the box on the bench next to him. “You are to study the attack it uses, what elemental alignment it may have and thus it's strengths and weaknesses. As soon as I have your preference for a bracelet or necklace to wear your mateira on, you will be allowed to select two to study in detail. I will have written reports from each of you about the mateira you have chosen. If I am satisfied that you have studied it enough, I shall show you the next level of summoning. This may seem fast but Mateira is relatively simple to use and thus won’t need as much time as the other summon levels.”

“One warning though where any summoning is concerned,” Braska said gravely, standing and gathering up his staff. “Should you seek to use this against a fellow student or the school, you will be removed from my class and possibly expelled from the school. Anyone abusing this trust I am placing in you will answer to me for it will be my Aeons that come after you. The same goes for anyone using what I have taught them.”

“Now, please choose an orb to use and we shall move from here and get to work,” Braska said, picking up the box and holding it out to the students to choose as the would.

Side note: Summon Materia that Braska has:
* Shiva (ice)
* Ifrit (fire)
* Ramuh (lightning)
* Titan (earth)
* Bahamut (non-elemental)
* Alexander (holy)
* Leviathan (water)
* Phoenix (life)
* Hades (status)
* Typhoon (wind)

Use this list to choose the mateira you will report on. No doubling up as Braska only has one of each. Please also post here at to which you are wearing - bracelet or necklace. Thanks ^_^

((ooc: written fic style...I'm trying a few different things to see what works best. sorry for the delay, students *sheepish grin*))
