Dec 31, 2009 10:21

It occurs to me that I wasn't particularly interested in this year's film offerings but instead I got more good sci-fi than I'd planned for and a few other bits to check out. Here goes ( Read more... )

In the Loop & A Serious Man; two sort-of sports movies, The Damned United and Rudo Y Cursi.

I feel like I haven't really seen Red Cliff until I see the uncut version. Really liked the second half of Red Cliff, tho.

I'd like to see the uncut version too, but what I saw felt like a complete story to me at least, an I could live with that.

I really liked The Princess & the Frog. It felt like old school Disney. Coraline didn't do much for me although my husband liked it. If you haven't seen The Blind Side it's a good feel good movie.

Seen several folks here recommend The Blind Side to me so I'll try and check it out soon. Thanx for the heads up. :)

I know it kills you that Transformers: RotF was the highest grossing movie of 2009. ;) But I digress...

Glad you have District 9 and Star Trek in there.

Yep. Transformers, Chipmunks and New Moon prove audiences don't always have the best tastes. *sigh*

I'll forgive New Moon as it's a scad of tween girls feeling out the Bodice Ripper/Horror realm (see also: Anne Rice). Hard to find fault with teens for having hormones. I'll forgive Chipmunks, because there has to be some animated packing peanuts available in the season to get the kiddies outta the house for a few hours.

For Transformers, there is no excuse.

Blasphemy. I forgive none of them. :) But Transformers is at least "fun" to watch.

2009, eh? karaoke_ok December 31 2009, 21:24:42 UTC
I thought you liked the Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince too?

A few others I've liked so far:

Invictus
The Blind Side (although I hear some black folks might have an issue with this story, though I would personally disagree with them)
I Love You, Man
Inglourious Basterds
Angels & Demons

Yet to see but still want to:

Couples Retreat
The Informant!
Sherlock Holmes
Taken
This Is It

Piece of advice: don't ever drag me into a theater to watch anything with George Clooney or Mariah Carey in it, unless you want me to set fire to the entire place.

Actually, I never got to Harry Potter this year. Will make a point to do so and check out the others here.

Supposed to see Sherlock Holmes tomorrow.

Taken kicked ass. This guy could teach Jack Bauer a torture method or two.

Ok, I understand the Mariah Carey bit (though I hear she's damned good in Precious) but what's up with the George Clooney sentiment?

Odd, I could have sworn that you suggested that I watch Half-Blood Prince before I did so ( ... )

Funny how I didn't see Ponyo but I do own Caroline..I did like the book more, so if you get a chance to ever read the book I recommenced it more than the film.

Kind of wondering why Watchmen isn't on the list?

I also liked Monsters vs Aliens, Taken, Zombieland, Men Who Stare At Goats. Just saw Sherlock Holmes and really liked it.

I sill haven't seen 9 and The Road.

Correction... penguin_typhoon January 1 2010, 19:21:22 UTC
I should probably correct my self by saying it's Coroline..not Caroline :)

I liked Watchmen but thought it had problems pacing wise which were distacting. I was totally fine with the changes they made to move things along but other elements were just eh, which is really sad because I loved the performances for Rorschach and The Comedian.

waiting to see Zombieland. Will definitely check out the others you mentioned.

I understand your view of Watchmen. I'm still impressed by the film though, until I actually watched it I had no idea how they were going to turn the comic into a film. No doubt it had to be very difficult to pace the film...but I still thought it matched well with the comic.

I really think you will enjoy Zombieland.
I can't bring myself to see Avatar....it just really doesn't interest me.
