Hello all. Been a while since I posted last and a little bit has changed in my life. I've since graduated from university and found myself a job back home. Currently, I work evenings (17:30 - 20:30) in a call-center, cold-calling for a local window firm: i.e. I ring up random strangers and try to convince them they want to become a show property ( Read more... )

Mmm...why not take up a scholarship, like a U.S. Fulbright one? Bill Gates seems to be giving out scholarships in his name at Cambridge (for Postgraduate Courses).

Goodness, you have a First Class Honours! I thought you'd easily find work judgeing by the grade of your qualification...Guess work is really hard to find in your area eh :P

"Guess work is really hard to find in your area eh?"

Man, you have no idea. I'd move back down south Wales were it not for the money. And that is of course why I've got these jobs. As for the scholarships...that's not a bad idea. I'll probably hunt around and see what turns up.

I don't know why Bill Gates decided to set up a foundation in his name to give students a chance to study, but here it is: http://www.gatesscholar.org/

Only at Cambridge though.

Then there's Rhodes for Oxford: http://www.rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk/

This one is for America: http://www.fulbright.co.uk/

Unfortunately, the first two seem to be for citizens from outside the UK. However, I'll take a deeper look at at the fullbright one.

Congratz on getting through uni mate.

As for the work front, I'll I can say is welcome to the rest of ya life.

At this point ye'll find that life really does suck, trust me I was stuck working in a fast food resturant for the past six years (luckily I've since left).

"As for the work front, I'll I can say is welcome to the rest of ya life."

That's a sentiment a lot of people have told me really recently; including my dad, my mates and no end of relatives :D. Guess it's probably true. I'd just been hoping to get out of things a bit quicker.

I guess "Welcome to the real world" is quite a shock. But a degree in one thing doesn't mean you have to stay there. I know an English major that joined the military as an officer, a triple major in electrical engineering, computer engineering, and business management that ran this own videogame store after working jobs from mechanic to broker, a psychology major that went to medical school, a biomedical engineering studying quantum physics as a doctoral student, and a chemistry major that plans to open a martial arts school ( ... )
