As for 4th ed D&D, Iain B tells me it's aimed primarily at kids who've done all their 'role-playing' on computer games. Can't remember all of what he told me, but got the impression that yer real, table-top, dice rolling gamers won't like it much.
Hmm. Sounds like the usual early-30s crisis to me ;-). These round numbers suddenly make you think in a different timescale to usual. At least you're not jumping on the marriage bandwagon!
This post sounds suspiciously like how I've been feeling, so I'm hoping its something you go through at a certain age,- I'm looking to completly change the direction of the job I'm doing and have definate change other things plans which I'd like to think more about- that said, we technically left Sheffield four years ago, and I love where we live, I just wish it was nearer to where everyone else lives!
Good luck with the writing, sounds most interesting. Also, why not apply for jobs in the wine trade and worry about whether you actually WANT them when offered? Gives you interview practice if nothing else and will make you think through what it is you want out of the job.

Given the number of tantrums I've seen over D&D, I think you might be onto something there...
