I hope your dad's operation goes well.

I can't get that illusion to work for me. The head never disappears for me no matter how intently I stare at the cross or how close I get to the monitor. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, or if it doesn't work for everyone.

Hmmm, did you make it full screen? It took me a while to find the spot and when I found it I had to stay perfectly still otherwise he'd reappear.

Tweetie Bird on a vehicle festooned with religious symbols? Love it.

The vanishing head illusion doesn't work for me. I tried, but being legally blind in my left eye makes it impossible. I have enough peripheral vision to detect the guy but the blind spot from a scarred retina means I can't take all the info in or see the X. It would have to be reversed.

I found a cute get well soon picture I was going to pass on for your dad but I'm out the door. back later.

Obviously the condition with your eye changes things but as you can imagine, it creates a blind spot where his head is and yet when he moves that bar up and down over that blind spot, we see the full bar despite it passing over the blind post. So what's happening (to the best of my knowledg) is the mind fills in the gap in the bar because we expect it to be a full bar, not one with a gap in the middle. That's what fascinating me, that we see something that isn't there, sort of filling in the gaps ourselves.

Oh ok. I've seen some similar illusions on paper, not video form. Makes you question what we see -- the world must look so different in the perception of other animals.

I've mentioned to my parents that your friend is dating one of the Veronicas when they're on the radio or tv. Here's the get well picture I thought was cute -
