I am not advocating a chop, just saying that I understand if the decision is made.
I am glad to see that the director is treating this as a fanboy project and really thinking of the fans and not just the studio.
I never saw the Director's Cut of Daredevil, I think the biggest killer for sales in that was the fact that it came out a full year after the initial DVD release. This is the same error made with the X-men 1.5 and the Spider-Man Extended DVD releases. Marvel Studios has full control now so the same mistake shouldn't be repeated. Also, there was very little press regarding the extended cut of Daredevil, unlike LOTR where moviegoers knew before the theatrical release that a deluxe extended version was going to be made.
I understand your point of view and honestly I share it, I don't like it when stories are cut up for the cinema, but I do understand why sometimes it has to happen.

The main point of the petition is to show support to Zack Snyder. He's mentioned many times in interviews that he's got a 3 hour cut of WATCHMEN and is under pressure to shorten it further. The studio seem to think that shorter films equal more enjoyable films. Clearly they didn't see the effect LoTR, The Dark Knight and (not a genre film) Titanic, had on gthe general public as well as the box office :D
Zack is trying to impress upon The Powers That Be that he simply cannot cut down any more because taking anything else out is going to affect the story. He's trimmed as much as possible and anythign more will result in elements being removed that are essential to the overall film.
My initial fears about the film were alleviated when the actors were asked a question about their reactions to the script when they first read it. "Script? We were given the graphic novel to read first and then,/i> we were given the script afterwards!" :D ( ... )
