You may have had something on it or it wasn't cleaned all the way. How old was the contact? They don't really go bad until at least 6 months later, longer for coloured contacts, and like... a million years for theatrical.
I am thinking that the swelling of your eye should go down soon. If anything, your blood vessels vasodilated (IE. got bigger) to try and bring oxygen into the area. However, if you think you need to see a doctor, use your best judgement and he will most likely give you eyedrops to help with the redness.
As long as you didn't share contacts with anyone, you don't have to worry about conjunctivitis. (Pinkeye)
