There's a reason that I have almost no references to my true identity on this blog (and that when I post something specifically related to my "professional" existence I invariably friends-lock it), but I agree with you that it really, really sucks.
I hope you'll be including me in your friends filter. =)

Students at another university got a serious talking to about being unprofessional on Facebook, and such, and while I gather that my profs are more understanding and respectful about people having personal lives and still being capable of being professional in their professional interactions, it's a sad fact of the world we live in that you can never know who's watching, or what they're going to do with that information.
Well, of course, it's not good that other students have been taking flack, but is good that you haven't been taking any flack yet. So, I'm glad to hear that. =)
I think your decision is a wise one, considering your plans to continue in the academic field.
Everyone who's already in is still in. It's just new people who have to comment and ask to be added. I hate to have to do it this way, but with HR people and others getting more and more invasive into people's personal lives, this is how it has to be.
