Before girding his loins for the field of battle, former NFL cornerback Fred Smoot participated in the NFL scouting combine. One of the tests is how many times a player can bench 225 lbs. While reports differ, Smoot either failed to lift the bar even once, or managed one repetition. He played 9 NFL seasons.
I like to think that Smoot managed zero reps, and now all can know that you have bench pressed more than an NFL player.

Lord Armour has found 225lb to be the epic warrior threshold. Something about having 45s on the bar makes one's testicles spew forth testosterone like a bull in a field of menstruating cows. Alas, this Smoot must live knowing he's but a mere man.

Once I get a spotter (plus am allowed to lift again1 and work back up to it), I'm so going to try for a one-rep max now.
I know I've done 2 x 8 at 180 lbs. (although I'm not sure I could repeat it). I would think that might translate into being able to do 225 lbs. as a one-rep max, but those conversion charts seem mostly like bs so far.

1. The restriction is from my hospitalization from pain-killer induced ulcers. Depending on how I define "two weeks" either tomorrow or Thursday is the first day I'm allowed to lift again. I figure it'll take me a week or so to get back up to speed.

(225 lbs. is one of my goals).

Fun fact: 135lb. qualifies one for manhood.

It's tough to make a strict conversion since endurance and power, though related, are not 1:1.
