I would have thought media students would know about such things as microphone filters. I could barely hear anything being said for all the background noise.
Interesting, though. Over here, that'd be taxable. Mind, I doubt many people would actually pay it, and it would be difficult to enforce, but it's still taxable (any income over a certain amount is, regardless of the source).
I thought it painted a really unflattering portrait of the Wellington busker scene, and I'd really like to see her try to eat fire with that permit. She'd be pulled up so fast. Ok, the woman at the Council help desk should maybe hae pointed out that she needs an extra permit for that, but come on, the police around here know all the regulars, and so would automatically check her license when they saw her.
Also, as my flatmate ended up yelling at the screen, a busking license IS NOT A QUALIFICATION. Guh. See icon.
Oh yeah, I'm Fitwuck2 on MSN now, 'cos the old account inexplicably stopped working. I'm not far away from having internet at home again, but for now I'm hanging out at the old internet cafe.
wait, what?! theyre trying to TAX buskers?! thats stupid!!! if on a good day you can make $100, like half of that will be taken in tax. and i really cant see buskers paying the tax anyway.

The quality control thing is more something that I wish could happen than something i would really like to see happening. The massive flaw in my reasoning, M'colleague pointed out to me, is that the only way it could happen would be to have some pen pushing bean counting bureaucrat in charge of deciding what constitutes good music. Fuk dat! So, really, voting with your money is the only way to do it.
I'm by no means the best paid busker in Wellington, but i do know that there are people who really do like what I do. I'm happy with that. Besides, I can also take comfort from the fact that Britney Spears makes far more money than Nick Cave, thereby proving that how much one gets paid is not a good indication of one's real talent.
Oh, and about using LJ for advertising, I'm playing with a couple of guys at Valve on Wednesday.

That's the main problem with quality control, yes. Besides, some of the really, um, odd acts do have some degree of charm.
Though I think I'm about over 'weird guy who sets out three bowls around him and croons into a microphone' busker by now. I miss his air-banjo days slightly.
Of course I still kind of miss Kenny, he was kind of a landmark.
