I found out yesterday that my great grandmother died. I was on my way back from school, and was going to get my wallet and go have lunch with a friend when my mom called and told me. They had already had her in a home for a couple of mounths, and they had told me she wasn't doing well, so it's not like it came as a huge surprise. That and the woman ( Read more... )

I'm sorry for your loss. That really would be strange to have a husband for so many years and then they pass away and you are suddenly alone again. But then again, at our young age we think that it's too late to meet new people at 70-ish, but maybe they don't? Now that I think about it, my grandfather died about three years ago, and my grandmother's still alive, and she's only 65 or so, so I wonder if she goes out and meets new people.

I'm really sorry to hear about your great grandma. That's not right that you didn't know about the cancer, you should have.
Maybe if you tell your professors that you're going away to attend a funeral they will be lenient on you. I'm sure they have to. And if not, then fuck them. Your family is always more important than anything else.
I hope to hear from you tomorrow, or whenever you can. Love youuu Ellie.

My grandfather passed away over 20 years ago and my grandmother has never remarried. She is in her 80's now, and lives alone by choice. My aunts and my mother keep trying to have her move in with them, but she likes living alone. I guess after you have the true love of your life, nothing else can compare.

Your great grandma had a long life, and it sounds like she had lots of family by her side. Cancer is hard to fight, at her age she probably wasn't strong enough and knew it, so she didn't want everyone to worry. Everyone's time comes. Still, its hard when a family member passes on. I'm sorry. *hugs*
