Recently I downloaded "Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla" in .avi format. The download came with a .srt file which I've since learned is the file containing the subitiles for the movie. However, when I play the file (I use windows media player 10) I don't get subtitles, just a silly monster movie in a language I don't understand (admittedly this shouldn't ( Read more... )

Put the avi file and the srt file in the same folder. Then when you play it in windows media player it will automatically play the subtitles when you play the movie.

Also, I found out that you can open those .srt files with notepad and change the subtitles manually, you can make them say whatever you want. Not that you would ever want or need to, just something interesting I found.

They were in the same folder to start with, just doesn't seem to work at all.

Hmm. Check the .srt file and make sure it's got the exact same name as the video file. Like, if the video is godzillaeatscock.divx.hommineehooha.meatytits.avi (or whatever)

...Then make sure the .srt is exactly the same, only with .srt instead of .avi.

They have to be named the same if they are to work in windows media player.

and if they aren't named the same, then simply rename the srt file. Just remember to add the .srt at the end when you rename it.
